WinVDIG Release Notes

Known Problems in current shipping version

  • Windows 98 might require the DCOM update.
  • USB bandwidth problems can occur when switching between multiple USB devices. This may well be a problem with DirectShow drivers.

Version 1.0.1 [Nov 11, 2004]

  • Improved compatibility with Windows 98
  • Efficiency improvements.
  • Handling different input formats improved (ntsc, secam and pal). Still issues here.

Version 0.99 [Nov 21, 2002]

  • DV capture is now full size.
  • New Installer.
  • Reduced memory requirements by approximately 100 kB.
  • Rework the handling of Video format information.
  • Efficiency improvements - much faster startup.

Version 0.9.3 [July 30, 2002]

  • Fixed black frames under QuickTime 6.0.
  • Fixed race condition which could cause freeze when starting and stopping a digitizer.
  • Reduced CPU load while digitizing. On slow machines this will translate to faster frame rates.

Version 0.9.1 [May 31, 2002]

  • Fixed DLL dependancy bug. One of WinVDIG's Active-X controls was linking to a dubugging DLL (msvcrtd.dll)
  • Performance improvements.

Version 0.9.0.1 [May 14, 2002]

  • Fixed double deletion error. Caused crashing on some cameras.
  • Now works with Intel Create & Share Pro
  • Improved installer to place all files in the QuickTime directory.

Version 0.8.0.1 [March 24, 2001]

  • Now works with DV capture sources. (Well, tested on an Adaptec Fireconnect card and Canon ZR 10)
  • Firewire capture is currently at half resolution.
  • Faster switching times between multiple devices.

Version 0.7.0.6 [March 6, 2001]

  • Fixed crashing bug when using QuickTime for Java.
  • Updated installer to include a license agreement.

Version 0.7.0.5 [March 1, 2001]

  • Removed error messages when video properties could not be set.
  • Works with Hauppage Video for Windows driver.
  • Some internal improvements to inter-process communication.

Version 0.6 [Febuary 14, 2001]

  • Included a SoftVDIG VDIG for testing multiple device support.
  • Support for brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, sharpness controls (where possible).
  • Basic multiple input support. WinVDIG will allow QuickTime to choose between multiple inputs on a capture card. This only works with some drivers.
  • Fixed up exported image description to include a nice name "WinVDIG Video" no less.
  • Fixed the safe-mode bug from version 0.5

Version 0.5 [January 27, 2001]

  • If Safe-Mode is used in the QuickTime preferences, files recorded with WinVDIG will appear black - as well as subsequent previews. On Windows NT, these files will play once, and then will appear black - even if DirectDraw is enabled. The only known solution is to reboot. Improved (i.e., reduced) memory requirements.
  • Fixed crashing bug when there were no WDM devices present.
  • Fixed up the installer a little bit.
  • Better clean up of temporary storage. WinVDIG was leaving *-WDM.dat files lying around.

Version 0.4 [January 18, 2001]

  • Multiple device support.
  • Improved error messages.

Version 0.3 [January 11, 2001]

  • Works with arbitrary sized devices. (Hopefully DV)

Version 0.2. [December 1, 2000]

  • Very basic. Only works with the first device that it finds.
  • Fails if the Video Device can't do 320x240.
